Read Tinker v. Des Moines and answer the following questions
(Note: You will need to see me for the reading.)

1. Who are the Tinkers and what are two things they wanted to do during the holiday season in 1965?

2. What policy did the Des Moines School District pass after hearing about these plans?

3. What happened to the Tinkers and Mr. Eckhart on December 16th?

This case ended up being appealed and made its way all the way to the Supreme Court.

4. What was the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision? In other words, did they side with the Tinkers or with the school district?

5. Provide ONE reason WHY the Supreme Court made this decision (look at the majority opinion).

6. Provide ONE argument made by a Supreme Court Justice who did not agree with this decision (look at the dissenting opinion).
