1st, 4th, and 6th Period ONLY

FIRST: Please take the Civics Pre-Survey that you can link to in the top right corner. This is NOT a test, so take your time and answer honestly.
Next
Today you will email me your work. The easiest thing to do is have three tabs open: your gmail account, my blog, and Be the Change website, which I will link you to below.

Before you get started on this website, open up your gmail and start composing an email to me (click on "compose mail"). You will not send the email until the end of the period after completing the Start Up, Activity, and Reflection.

Start Up
Have you ever heard the term upstander used as a way to describe someone? If so, what does it mean? If not, what do you think it means (hint: what word does it sound like)? If you are still stuck, come back and answer this question after you've completed the activity.

Activity
Today you will visit a site that features five people Reebok recently honored with their Human Rights Award Facing History and Ourselves now features these upstanders on their webpage. So let's take a look.

1. Right click on:  Facing History and Ourselves Be The Change and select "open link in new tab".
2. Click on "Register" and use your first name as your username.
3. Once you've registered, you are ready to explore Be the Change by clicking on one of the upstanders to the right.

Take about 10 minutes to "skim" through each person's story and choose the person that interests you most and tell me about this person. Make sure you explain:

                     - who they are;
                     - where they're from;
                     - when they started their work/activism; and
                     - most importantly, explain what they've done that makes them upstanders.

Reflection
Of the five upstanders, why did you decide to explore this particular person? What about this person caught your attention. While you read, what information made the biggest impression on you? Why?

FINALLY!!!
Please type "Upstander" in your subject line and don't forget to send your email to me!     fiorinicivics@gmail.com
